Below
is a review of Formula
Bone's
last release before they split.
Formula
bone released their 14 track 'Bear Up' CD in May
2005.
As
promised, here are some words that I think describe
'Bear Up'. Catchy, sketchy, scratchy, noisy, enjoyable,
punk, slight.

Get a head full of snippets of colourful TV programmes,
borrowed memories of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band
and Damon Albarn vocals. And punk awkward attitude
and Velvet underground/LCD Sound System/Atari
Teenage Riot knowledge.
Empty
the contents onto a London pavement. Get your
cool friends to stamp all over mixture, until
it is flat enough to be recorded digitally. Recreate
the emptying and the stamping and record it digitally.
'Bear
Up' is the indie-pop-noise of the future, if a
little under cooked. But then again punk was raw,
maybe. And it is ahead of its time. The future-people
don't need cookers?
Track
eight 'I will be your legs' is a really good tune.
Witty, catchy and sweet - it's strong enough not
to need hiding behind samples from cartoons. I
think the lyrics mention chicken and chips.
'Extra
Track 13' jumps out too, jungle with interesting
samples, rather than the usual dull sliced warbling.
'Bear
Up' is 80% better than anything you'll hear, if
you turn the radio on NOW.
