The
London based Brainlove Records are a young record
label putting out music by some of the best underground
bands and artists.
In
June 2006 they started their 7" Singles Club.
We've been meaning to give their releases a mention
for a while.
On
the 20 of November 2006 Brainlove release the
third of their singles: Applicants - Crappuccino
/ Filthy along with The Open Mouths - Danny Danny.
Here's a review, Hugh.

The
Applicants track Crappuccino features
a drum machine and cartoon samples.
It's
daft and short and energetic and rock n roll and
it's about the idiocy of coffee culture? I dunno
- but worth a listen.
It's
pop music. I'd like to see them live. 1 minute
50 seconds long. It's ace. Which is what pop music
should be about - energy and all that. It mentions
the American Dream - so I'm guessing it's about
the excessive consumption / the American way /
but it's a celebration at the same time! Hooray.
George Carlin said "The owners of this country
know the truth. It's called the American Dream,
because you have to be asleep to believe it"
I

Track
2 by the Applicants is called Filthy.
It's more straightforward rock. They still sound
like they'd be good live.
"My dog's got fleas that he caught from me.
Because I'm filthy." is what they sing.
A bit rockabilly Mark E Smith Fall.
Energetic rock/roll - you've got to wish them
well, and buy their single.
Track
3 - Danny Danny - is by a band called The Open
Mouths.
Ok
- sounds like oh Danny - sounds like - er quite
old fashioned in a early 80's pop rock thing.
hmmmm. "I can't quite put my finger on what
it was that made me made me write this song"
that's what they sing. A bit melodic and slightly
plodding. Sorry. "Oh Danny Danny you're the
one for me" they sing that, too.
Crappuccino
is the one I played again.
