August 2008

British painter Clare Woods is exhibiting her new large scale enamel on aluminium paintings at Stuart Shave/Modern Art's gallery in London, UK.

Woods' works are a re-reading of the British landscape. She depicts scenes of depopulated spaces, overgrown pathways, abandoned dirt tracks and dark lakes encroached on by bowing branches.

The centrepiece of the exhibition is the ‘Monster Field’ painting. Comprised of seamlessly joined panels, and at over 7 metres in length, it commands the gallery.

Woods describes ‘Monster Field’ as “sculptural…”, in that “the viewer cannot absorb the surface in one take.”
